Demonstrating intra-Spacecraft Optical Wireless Links

چکیده
In a Spacecraft (SC), huge amount of cabled electrical connections is needed by many different units to exchange digital data. This increases the overall mass, space occupancy, and routing design time. Here, we propose demonstrate an Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) system that can perfectly replace MIL-STD-1553B cables inside SC, providing wireless communication among satellite units, with full backward compatibility pre-existing protocols. We present experimental demonstration in challenging environment populated mockup real where connect four exploit Non Line-of-Sight (NLOS) configuration, i.e. take advantage scattering from walls overcome shadowing effects. OWC technique effectively reduce weight (more than 50%) cost SC data network. The proposed transceivers are based on transparent, fully analog solution made Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) components, features compatible environment. on-field experiment shows this practical for networks future SCs.

The Challenges of Intra-spacecraft Wireless Data Interfacing
The onboard computer, various subsystems and the data handling system of a spacecraft can be viewed as the nodes of a sensor/actuator network. Wireless sensor networks for monitoring and control have been in existence for several years, however, their adoption to space applications is still under discussion. Despite the fact that many communication protocols with adequate power and reliability ...
متن کاملAvailability Assessment of Optical Wireless Links
The paper deals with a statistical model of optical wireless links. The model is based on a combination of model of the atmospheric transmission channel at the installation site and the model of optical wireless link in ideal atmosphere. It allows an estimation of link availability based on the knowledge of the dependence of link margin on the transceiver distance for particular parameters of a...
متن کاملConvolutional Coded DPIM for Indoor Optical Wireless Links
In this paper we evaluate the performance of digital pulse interval modulation (DPIM) with convolutional coding for different values of bit resolution and different sizes of guard bands. We show that convolutional coding is an effective method of improving the error performance of DPIM over optical wireless links. The convolutional coded DPIM with a guard band of 2 slots has the advantage of fi...
متن کاملMillimeter-wave MIMO: Wireless Links at Optical Speeds
We propose a new architecture for bridging the existing gap in speeds between wireless and optical links. The Millimeter Wave MIMO system employs “millimeter (mm) wave” spectrum in the E-band (70-95 GHz), which has been made available by the Federal Communications Commission on a semi-unlicensed basis for outdoor point-to-point communication. The small wavelengths enable highly directive beams ...

The development of teleworking relies heavily on telecommunications infrastructure. In particular, fiber optic networks for high speed networking and various wireless standards (IEEE 802.1x) lead to extensions of fixed networks. Moreover, Private Branch Exchanges (PBXs) with the introduction of IP technology are being transformed to universal access platforms for corporations and organizations....
